Welcome to NOVA!

We are pleased that you are interested in attending NOVA. We look forward to working with you. This website is designed to help you with the admissions process here at the college. There is already much information about the process on the NOVA website but we wanted to have an additional space where you can ask questions and comment about the NOVA admissions process, and we can post important updates.

The information on the blog is organized by entries with the most recent at the top. At the end of each entry is a line with the word Comment on it so you can make comments or ask questions about the admissions process.

If you want to leave a comment or ask a question, go to the end of this posted entry and click on Comments. You can then write your comment or question. Next, click on the Publish Your Comment button. Your comment or question will appear in the Comments area. We will respond.

I recently applied for admission to NOVA, but changed my mind. I've decided to go to another college instead. What steps do I need to take, if any, to withdraw my application?

I just applied for admission a couple of weeks ago and also had my transcripts sent to NOVA from the school I am currently attending. I don't know what my next step should be in this process. Is there a phone number I can call or someone that can assist me in these further steps?

I recently moved to the Woodbridge area from Virginia Beach where I attended Tidewater Community College. I understand they are part of the VCCS system and I can enroll with NOVA anytime. However, my default college is TCC and I cannot enroll for summer school classes unless the default is NOVA. I applied to NOVA just in case and haven't heard anything. Have I gone about this the right way?

Do you accept an Adult High School Equivalency Diploma (AHSED) accredited by the National Private School Accreditation Alliance (NPSAA) from online sources for admission?

I would like to enter NOVA as a new student in this fall !

I am Yeeun Joo, and have U. S. citizenship. I lived, however, in Korea in most of my life, and graduated high school in Taejon, Korea. My parents are both Korean. I was born in Indiana, and had studied at an elementary school in Maryland for one year, when I was 5th grade, and my dad was working at University of Maryland as a visiting professor. I have little problem in communicating in English. I got my TOFEL scores 210 of CBT and 72 of IBT. My family have a plan to visit U.S.A. again in this summer.

I am asking whether I can just apply for admission online or have to submit other documentations, for example, graduate certification from high school, TOEFL score, et. al. Is there any more admission requirements? Am I classified domestic student or international student.

My final goal is to transfer to University of Virginia. I would appreciate, if you help me by conducting the best way to get an admission from NOVA

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

I want to transfer to NOVA from an out of state four year university, but as it turns out I might be academically dropped for a period of two years from here. Is that going to count against me when I apply there?

Is the admissions office open on Saturday? I need to come by and drop off some info that was requested, but I work on the weekdays and have no time. It has been a few weeks and I still haven't done it. I would appreciate an answer on the admissions office hours of operation. Thank you.

I got everything signed for my application for graduation awhile ago but I forgot to turn it in to the admissions office. I don't have any interest in participating in a ceremony; I just want my degree. Do I have to wait till fall semester to apply of it or is there something I can do? Please let me know asap. Thanks.

I would like to get in touch with someone who can help me with my resident status. I currently show out of state stauts but my spouse is military active duty and we are stationed here in Virginia. Shouldnt I qualify for in-state?
Thanks!

Kerry said...

I applied to NOVA in the summer, and due to some weirdness in the In-State Tuition part of the application, I was deemed inelligible. There was zero contact info to help me to merely change my application to claim residency through my husband. Now, when I try to apply again online, the service won't let me proceed. I went ahead and did the paper/pencil application, but this is quite frustrating. Can my account be reset?

Hi,I am very interested in your Dental Hygiene Program. First, I'm wondering about the level of competition for admissions. My other concern is that it's been almost ten years since I've been in school. I have about 4 years completed...3 at a CA community college, and 1 at University of CA San Diego. My community college GPA is decent, but my University courses were a mess. I think I'm still on academic probation there. I'm trying to step over that mess and restart again. Can I transfer most of my credits from the community college, and will the academic probation hinder me from acceptance into your school and the Dental program?

I am an older professional who would like to take a class in anthropology. The class I would like to take is 3 hours a week. Is that available in the evenings, and is it just one class or is it divided into three one-hour classes? Is any of this possible, or do I have to be a full-time student?

I mailed in an application a week ago to the Annandale campus because I was unable to apply online. I plan to attend the Alexandria campus in the Spring to retake a prerequisite and then attend classes at the Medical Education Campus in Fall 2009. I have not heard anything. How would I know if my application was processed?

Please Help!

I applied for admission to NOVA for the Fall 08 but was unable to attend. I attempted to re-apply for admissions for the spring and there was a question on the app that stated Have you previously attended, applied for admission to, or been employed by any Virginia community college? So I answered yes and entered the empl id I had been previously given. Then I got a message stating the information you entered conflicted with existing student records - you will not be able to continue applying online. To resolve the problem and complete your application, please contact your college. My log in for NovaConnect, Blackboard, Student Email & VCCS Services all still work. My question is if I reapply would all the info remain the same? And should I contact the admissions office? or Who?

Thanks

I have recently been suspended from a school in Virginia for an alcohol violation. An incident that occurred off-campus, underage possession and open container. The suspension is in effect until May. I would like to take some classes at NOVA during the spring semester. Will I be granted admission? If yes, when my suspension period is over, will I be able to transfer my credits from the other Virginia school to NOVA?

I am a high school senior, and I am planning on taking a gap year before enrolling at the US Air Force Academy. During my gap year, I am interested in taking some courses at NOVA to bolster my resume. However, I do not wish to enroll for the 4 year program. How would you suggest I go about this?

Anonymous said...

I'm trying to return to school and were very confused and frustrated by the admission office at the Alexandria Campus. First the office told me that I can not re-apply online. I must complete the paper and apply in person. Today I came back with the completion of the application then after 1 hour wait, I'm told to go back and apply on line because it will take that person 3 days to complete my application. Now that I tried online but I'm unable to completed it directed me I must contact the admission office. I don't know which source to go by.

I guess I'm not the first one who experience this issue. I hope that someone in the admin office is aware of this issue and help with a smother process.

Hi!
I am a teacher in FCPS with certification in PK-3. I recently requessted an audit from the state and they responded that I need 3 undergrad classes to raise my certification to 4-6. I can take these classes at any accredited school. All my degrees are thru GMU. I would like to get started on these classes as soon as possible. Would I need to apply as a new student? Is there a way I could get in on a class this spring (I know classes started yesterday)? THanks for any advice you can give.

I have been going to a college in my hometown for about a year, and a lot of things happened and my grades ended up being really bad. Anyways, I was inquiring as to what the admissions requirements are; Such as, what kind of GPA I will need to get accepted an what not.
Thank you.

I'm a high school senior and I applied to a couple schools. I got waitlisted at GMU (my top choice school). When should I apply to NOVA at the latest (my fall back school) should I not gain admission off the waitlist? I want to make sure I get the right classes in time for the Fall 2009 semester just in case I don’t get into GMU.

If I apply to NOVA in the next few days and I find later that I got accepted off the GMU waitlist, is there any way the NOVA application can be withdrawn? It that possible?

I currently attend a community college in NJ, but I am planning on moving to Virgina.

I applied to NOVA for Spring 2010 a few weeks ago to be prepared to enroll when I move.

However, I have decided that while I am still in NJ, I would like to take an online class or two in Fall 09.

I tried to register for Fall 09 online classes through the student services website, but it did not allow me to register because it only showed the term Spring 2010.

Is there anyway I can change my application status to Fall 2009 and take online classes? I am not sure that I remember my username and password that I used to apply. Please also let me know if there is a number that I can call to receive assistance with this. Thank you
